Happy New Year – and well done on your weight loss and fitness achievements Gaz!
I ran into this blog while doing some work-related research a few days ago and I thought I’d make it a point to leave you a note.
The amount of weight you’ve lost is impressive and it gives hope to overweight people that given enough commitment and drive anyone can reach a healthy weight.
I noticed you still think you need to lose a few more pounds? This being the case there’s a new type of bike I have been using for some time now, which burns a lot more calories than a standard bicycle for the same mileage or time spent riding and I thought you may want to try riding one. It’s called an ElliptiGO 8S and is a new type of machine known as an elliptical bike.
If you are keen to try one out I can organise a test ride for you. To do this just contact me via my website:
http://www.idaimakaya.com
Keep up the good work in 2011, make your dreams come true – and aim to make it the best year of your life so far!
Kind offer thanks BUT I am saving for a Carbon road bike, so dont need something else to have to save for too LOL
No prob Gaz. Keep riding and keep striving!
Thanks Dude
I reckon you’ve already done number 14
14. Promote cycling and weight loss to a room of Morbidly Obese adults
The internet is the room.
Can I make a daring suggestion? Why not set up a button on your site for people to donate towards your apronectomy? Everyone who reads this blog and who has been inspired by what you’ve done can have the chance to donate a small (or large) amount of money towards the operation.
Thats a fair comment mate, Tho, i’d love to see the reactions of peoples face who, are maybe as large as I was when it sinks in just what can be done with nothing more than the humble bicycle.
That is a pretty daring suggestion TBH, Let me have a think about it.

Hello Gary, I am a friend of a workmate of yours he did a blackpool cycle ride with you Paul F. I was told on Thursday I had reached 30 stone I had honestly no idea i was that weight. I was aembarrassed and ashamed. But I know with hard work and effort it can be reduced. Thank you for being an inspiration Gary.

Hi,
just caught you story in Cycling plus, very impressed, just wondering what your daily diet is at 1250 Cals a day, as it seems very restrivitve. Also what are you measuring to work out what cals you have used in a day?
Being a bit of a sad office worker who needs to get out on his bike more I’d like to follow where you have lead.
Cheers
Hi Phil
Thanks for your message

Hi,
I’ve just found your blog while searching for a bike. It is very inspiring for me to ensure is possible to go down even from this high numbers of weight by sport. To introduce myself a bit, I am 34,afew month after a light heart attack,, started with weight 210 kg 3 month ago. Now I am 9 kilos lighter and sport has been allowed by doctors (swimming, cycling). Tommorow I will go to order a bike GIANTT looks symphatic for me,, but need to test and get and advice from biker experts.
good luck, test ride and enjoy
Really inspiring blog and story! I see you haven’t crossed off your Etape goal yet. I did my first one last year and recorded my progress here: http://wp.me/Pk2tX-S2
I’m doing (or at least attempting) both of them this year. If you’d like any advice I’d be happy to help, if I can.
Great site mate, great achievement, well done, for me, the Etape is a long term thing, physically and mentally im ready, there are just other constraints right now, but i;ll do it.

I followed you when you subbed for the Fat Cycist recently and I am finding that I need to talk to you as I think you will understand where I am coming from ..I have lost 136+ pounds and have about 30-40 more to go. I am a cyclist and I just started to race. I am an athlete, but I am a fat athlete. I need to talk about this.

Hi,
I came across your story in search of a bike that could hold my heavy load of 26 stone. Your story and achievements are truly amazing and are an inspiration to those of us just starting out. I’m having trouble finding a decent bike that will be able to support my weight. You mentioned your started out on a Giant Yukon – did you have custom wheels made to support you or were they stock?? Everyone keeps telling me that the wheel set is the most important component for heavy riders…. any advice you have is much appreciated.
Thanks
Wheels for heavy riders are indeed critical.
My yukon was totally stock, wheels included, that’s the bonus with mtb’s
They are made of strong stuff
Good luck man!!!!
