It is indeed CRAZY times here in Sunny no warm, no cold, no wet freezing and windy Manchester, so much so that a shark took a bite out of my bike last week.
Ok ok ok, so maybe that’s not TOTALLY true….The real story is just as good though.
See I was on my way to work, less than a mile away from my office, I was close to a PB, I was feeling fresh but not in the mood for breaking any records, it was just another normal day of knocking out the miles and getting them under the belt for the week.
The traffic light’s in front of me were red, I held back (see I AM a good boy) , as they changed I built up speed, without the need to stand, until I was doing 20 mph, then I felt like a bit of a pace injection was needed as it was a fairly quiet day, so I stood up, 2 turns of the crack later and my whole world came tumbling down and upside down, next thing I know, as I am flying though the air, over the bike, at 23 Mph….then BANG
S**T That Hurt
Injury’s were to my left arm and ankle, right elbow, knee, ankle, head and midriff area
The serious ones???? Well, I was AGAIN lucky, none were * Serious* but by GOD it hurts like HELL !…
Helmet Gaz
Ok ok, I give in, 5 days later the bump on my head still hurts, I guess helmets are not THAT bad looking
Jonny Hoogerland is hard??
Not as hard as “R” Gaz
The irony of being bandaged up like that, is I was wearing my George Hincapie jersey when it happened, so ended up like the big man myself (well, that stretching it a LITTLE)
Joking aside, it’s quite scary to have a part fail on you at that speed, its over before you have an idea of what is going on, thankfully a paramedic was on the other side of the road and saw it happen so was there in literally seconds, god bless the NHS eh ?
Please sponsor me for Manchester to Blackpool 2012,

OUCH!!!! How in the name of hell did you manage to snap the crank arm?!
Seriously, glad you’re not too badly hurt, but it may be worth your while getting that helmet now ;o)
Was my sheer awesomeness
Gotta have been some kind of metal fatigue or a faulty part Gaz. I know about material technology and relevant forces that cause failure. A cyclist’s power delivery would not be able to break a crank arm like that! Sorry to burst your amazing power bubble! LOL!
Oiiiiiiii Chapman….. Nooooooooo
It’s all down to my sheer awesomeness and that’s the end of it
Unless there’s compo enough to buy a new bike that is
Hi there!
Hope it’s okay with you but I have given you a mention (a positive mention) on my own blog and lifted one of your photos to illustrate it. Please let me know if you’re alright about this I’ll happily take the image off if that’s what you prefer.
Hope you can pick up the address alight.
Thanks. All the best!
Doug.
