TV’s 650lb Virgin, Wiggo and The Tour, The UK Likes Cycling. Velo Gaz.

A few things, that weren’t about me, but were related to my interests that I wanted to talk about in my last updated but I didn’t have the time, can be found here:

TV’s 650lb Virgin lets it all go:

I have spoken over and over again throughout my journey of being worried about not being a success or succeeding and then falling back and putting all the weight back on, well, last week I read about TV’s 650lb Virgin, who lost 400 pounds, found love, became a personal trainer, had surgery to remove his skin, has now become morbidly obese once again

Thats NOT his “Before” pic, its its after weight loss and after re-gaining the weight, This is how good he had made himself look after being 650lbs

David Smith TV's 650lb Virgin

The story of David Smith, TV’s 650lb Virgin REALLY saddens and scare me at the very same time, it’s  even more compelling evidence  that there is something that drives people to over eat…not just lack of self control…I really hope he manages to control his demons…This story to me Just shows how obesity is not just about over eating, but about mental issues.

David I wish you well brother, I really do !!!
Wiggo..Go…Go…Go
So with just a few more days to the start of the 2012 Tour De France, I wanted to Wish all of Team Sky good luck, especially Mark Cavendish the LEGEND and Wiggo, who looks to be in the form of his life, this for Cav is a warm up to London 2012 and for Wiggo is by far and away his best chance at winning the TdF Yellow…..GO GO GO Wiggo , Go get that Yellow for us
A Special mention goes to the most exciting rider in breakaways I have ever seen, Vino, PLEASE get bored and attack for the sake of it like you normally do, and enjoy your last TdF this year.
The UK Rides Out To Cycling:

The biggest annual increase in cycling saved the economy tens of millions of pounds and hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions, according to a report published last Friday .

Cyclists made 40 million more journeys by bike on a national network of cycle routes, bucking a trend of falling traffic volumes on the roads, the study by Sustrans transport charity found.

Amazing but there is MUCH work still to do.with 41 cyclists killed already in the UK in 2012, we are some way away from getting to where we want to be,  This is just the start of the revolution captain :0)

Thanks Kids:

On fathers day my kids took me out to national cycling center , the Manchester Velodrome.

Sitting Back, Stalking My Prey

Not much to say that isn’t said in my video here:

Fabian Cancellara – Not HUMAN?

Ulrich > High gear, Low cadence

Armstrong > Low gear, High Cadence

Cancellara > High Gear, High Cadence.

Lance bites back:

On Friday Lance bit back, saying either submit the documents or drop the case USADA, its been quite since (At the time of writing this) , so was this yet ANOTHER case of BS that comes to nothing while dragging a true champions name through the mud, as Fiz said, NO ONE but Lance et el REALLY knows what went on, so move along now eh ?

I agree there is something else that drives over eating because i have tried three VLCDs (Ie Lighter Life) dropped to much healthier weights (~12st from 20+) and all three times I have gone back up. While I am getting more into cycling there are instances when it can’t be the only way I can lose weight. I have been off the bike as per Doctors orders because of a low platelet count and the inherent risk of cycling in London. As a side not because of my size I have decided to go for an upright cruiser position for comfort. I am building a bike from ground up (much to my wife’s dismay as the cost skyrockets) So Far I have a Van Nicholas Jump Bike Frame As I am a Short arse who needs a 26″ wheel set up with fat tires as I seem to snakebite anything in the 700c range. I was thinking about 29ers but then have found availability of fat road tires VERY low. Any advice is sought and welcome. Oh and I grew up In San Diego and am a huge Chargers Fan (Pardon the pun) and I was wondering about your thoughts on LT.

The view of obesity is way too narrow, from everyone

Can’t help you there, I’ve looked into 29′ers in the past and lack of types always put me off,tho I understand they are just 700′c?

I love LT, he made me a chargers fan, now it’s Rivers and Gates and I’ll always be a fan of the bolts, thanks in no short way to LT

“NO ONE but Lance et el REALLY knows what went on, so move along now eh ?”

No one but Lance, and the multitude of other people involved, know what went on. And 10 of those people (team mates) have now ‘fessed up, hence Lance’s coming dénouement.

We’ll all move along once the truth has been established and reality imposes its harsh, but inevitable, toll.

Hi Gaz, I’ve been following your blog for about 12 months and you are right when you comment on the ’650lb virgin’ – something IS driving us to over-eat and recent studies are coming to light to suggest it’s processed sugar.

I have a huge sweet tooth and when I read an article suggesting sugar was the cause of obesity I was devastated, I was in denial that it could be true. HOWEVER the more I thought about it the more I realised that all the things I compulsively over-eat have sugar in them (even the savoury items). Have you ever wondered “how did I eat a WHOLE bar of chocolate? I was only going to have one square!”

I kicked my sugar habit this week, I’ve stopped taking processed sugar, honey or sweetners and I’m starting to realise I don’t miss it and my appetite has decreased. It’s hard to start with, but when your stomache is full and you are still craving something sweet what does this tell you? Your body is not asking for food (you’ve already eaten plenty) so why are you craving it?

Everyone should watch the lecture given by Dr Robert Lustig at the University of California here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM

it’s the most life-changing hour and a half I’ve ever spent – stick with it, even if you don’t follow the science, as the conclusions are astounding!

Jason (soon to be slimmer)

I agree in quite a few ways except that in my case I Binge on fatty meats (Huge Ghrellin response but i don’t know why) I definitely though have found certain foods in the UK less moreish because of the lack of trans fat usage. I only hope Arnies California ban stays in place and real research can be done to see trans-fats are also addictive in the same way refined sugars are.

Looking nice and comfortable on that track bike, I shit myself every time I go up and I’ve been doing it for a couple of years. Shame I don’t have strava segments on there for you to chase :P Although I do have some ‘MYLAPS’ transponder times :)
As for Lance, they should move on just like Cycling is trying to do, it’s not just LAs name they are dragging down but the whole sports.

I’d love some segments to chase round there :0)

But dont worry, i’d never beat your KOM’s mate, im not in your class !

The guy wouldn’t do a timed run, so I’ve not idea how good I was, but was sub 20 seconds

Agreed on Lance, we have so many great cyclists coming though , all we are doing is putting people off, at all levels, it needs to stop a line drawn, changes made and everyone moves on

Simples :)
