It’s ALL About The Carbon….(Not Really)..Training Ride Report

10 04 2011

…..Bottle Holder…….My Carbon bike is off the road (Issue with the second hand crankset) , Yesterday, my Carbon bottle cages arrived, after ordering them approx 5 weeks ago.

I thought it RUDE not to then take the CAAD9 out to, “Test” the cages :-)

My Official “Training Ride” Jersey is my 7 Stars Discovery Top, I donned it and I was ready.

The last time I went on a weekend training ride, it was all about climbing, this ride I wanted to make all about speed, and boy did I do that, the weather was amazing , 23 degrees , bright sunshine, clear blue sky, for the UK this was as good as it gets.

I left the house and I NAILED it, the second mile was done over 20 Mph, in fact, let me show you.

The ride was a shade under 40 miles, the last 15 Miles included 2000 ft of climbing and Manchester City Centre, so my speeds did drop from the above, before I Hit Manchester I was averaging approx 18.5 Mph, by the time I got home and had done a NASTY ass climb at the end of a hard and fast ride I had still managed to average 16.5Mph, I was done tho, I have NEVER EVER suffered on the bike as much as yesterday, I kept on the drops and just kept pushing pushing pushing, I got home and I was done in, but I loved it.

Another point to note is that, because it was so warm, I was pouring in sweat, I have not been sweating while riding for at least 18 moths , mainly due to me not feeling warm, at all, ever , any more , So that felt good.

Hey-Fever:

Before I started my journey, I was so hot at 40 stone that during the summer i’d do anything I could NOT to leave my house, now I am out every day, last year I suspected I had Hey Fever, this year, within a couple of nice days, I can confirm I DO have it, without question, so I need to look at that and put something in place to deal with it, strange side effect of losing weight though.

If this or I have inspired you, then PLEASE sponsor me for the 2011 Manchester to Blackpool charity ride, together, we CAN beat cancer.

I use Zirtek to control my hayfever mate. It works for me and doesn’t cause drowsiness.

Now then Gaz. What does a red light on a traffic light mean?

Something about you suggesting my lack of humility maybe ?

I’m quite certain you went through 2 red lights this afternoon and I’m sure you’ve posted videos condoning this. I was waiting at some lights joining the road you were already on. Each time I caught up with you, you went through the lights. But the old tosser in jeans/fleece riding a heavy tourer and carrying shopping on his rear carrier did pass you and I don’t think you caught up with him.

Ashton Moss? If so , I was getting onto the cycle path, as for the “old tosser” (how nice) he was on the road and I wasnt(Cycle path), he then turned left, I didnt .

I am the old tosser and I was in the lane to turn left onto Richmond St but I rejoined Lord Sheldon Way and sat on your wheel before getting onto the cycle path at Ikea and rejoining Wellington Road again before heading up Oldham Rd. You went through the red light at the junction of Lord Sheldon way and Cavendish St. I don’t have a problem with this other than your videos where (I could be wrong) I thought you had a go at such actions from other cyclists. Incidentally I was on the cycle path up until the roundabout at the Village Gym, I rejoined the carriageway because I wanted to pass you safely as there were pedestrians on the shared path.

If nothing else I am glad I provided you with a wheel to grab a hold of, you should have said hello, I’m very friendly you know, full of humility too :-)

Gaz. I’m really not having a go at you but when I noticed you on the road I instantly knew who you were from reading your blog. You write that your wish is to lead group rides and possibly earn a living from doing such rides? You have no idea who I am or what I do for a living, but because of this blog people might recognise you. Be careful on the roads as you never know who might see you.

Fair point, lesson learn, it was a day of madness, there are reasons (not excuses) behind it, but people that see me do it (like you ) dont know what those reasons are.

In fairness its not something I am in the habit of doing, that of course doesn’t justify it.

So, who are you and what do you do for a living ? can you help me achieve my dream ? :-)

It’s only when people point out our short comings do we feel a need to deal with them, so thanks for that, and even now, I still wouldn’t call you can “Old Tosser” :-)

Haha! To use an Americanism – “You are so busted!” ;-)

Shut it Chapman :-)

In all fairness, it was stupid, and as ANYONE who rides with me knows, its not something I normally do.
