5 02 2011

So, about an hour ago….I ate something I have never even come close to before.

I decided to  Eat a piece of an orange, taste wise I actually enjoyed it, texture wise, I struggled , but I did what I set out to do.

Its a SMALL but significant step on what it going to be a LONG and difficult  road.

wow – that was quick, I can’t believe you’ve already taken such a big step!

Glad to hear you enjoyed at least part of the experience! Next time should be easier, just take it slowly, and don’t be too hard on yourself.

Well done. And WELL DONE for posting all this and attacking it head-on.

You will crush this as you crushed your stones… speaking of which, if you were only eating Doritos, chocolate and whatever the third thing was…

How did you drop 20+ stones? Diet has EVERYTHING to do with extreme weight-loss, so I’m baffled.

Tell us what you’re not telling us, dear friend. :)

Thanks Man

There is nothing I am not saying, its all on the table now, when losing weight I was only eating 1000 – 1500 calories a day and burning up to 2000, so it just goes to prove that, its not what you eat, its HOW MUCH you eat, thats the isue.

Great to see you so up-beat Gaz!
I think Colin hit it on the head with the “personal fruit taster” :-)
Unfortunately the supermarkets go for uniform shape, size & colour in their fruit buying, but not for best taste… There is nothing that beats a lovely crisp fresh tasty apple or sweet juicy orange/satsuma/clementine, but a mealy apple or dried out and sour orange can seriouslt put you off, if you don’t know just how good they can be.

I was thinking about something that’s similar to crisps in texture/flavour, but would give you some healthy carbohydrates to try … what are your thoughts about crispbread?
There are lots of varieties out there, some very bland, others quite tasty. They also keep well if you wanted to introduce small quantities (if you seal the packet to prevent them softening, just like crisps, really ;-)
There is a brand called Finncrisp that you might want to check out (I have no connection to them I hasten to add)
Just a thought, it looks like you will find your own way without much help :-).

As has been said somewhere in recent comments, give your guts some time to learn about the strange new stuff that they don’t recognise … by only replacing small parts of your meals with new stuff.

I hope you can enjoy the new flavours, textures and smells once you get over the novelty value :-)

The longest journey starts with just one step, or as a Parachute Jump Instructor I knew in the Army used to say, “There’s no turning back after you leave the aircraft!”

One piece of Orange is you leaving the aircraft. Enjoy the ride!

good to hear, now to master the other power fruits

not sure if you have one or not but you should consider looking into getting a juicer, argos do a cookworks juicer which is quite cheap, it is a good kitchen gadget that can produce lovely smoothies and you can chuck anything in there, today i had a spinach, apple, pear and carrot smoothie, strange but did not taste too bad and did give me loads of energy for my bike ride
